Texas Itinerary

Thursday, March 15                                                                                                   Salina, Kansas
  Today we are off to the state of Texas, you could consider it a country by itself.  It is 800 miles wide and nearly that far north to south consisting of a sunny seacoast to mile-high mountains, dense forests to cactus-studded desert, great cities and towns! We will be traveling through Iowa with a  luncheon stop in Iowa.  After lunch we will continue our travels through the state of Missouri and into Kansas for our overnight stay at the Country Inn & Suites in Salina, Kansas.

Friday, March 16                                                                                                      Oklahoma City , KS

 After continental breakfast we have an hour drive to the city of Hutchinson , KS . Our morning stop will be a tour of the Under Ground Salt Museum, this museum is the only one of its kind in the western hemisphere. It will explore the story of salt in a subterranean environment few have seen before. The majority of the exhibits will take place 650 feet underground within a working salt mine. Our luncheon stop will be in Yoder , KS , an Amish community for an included Amish meal at the Carriage Crossing Restaurant. You will have an opportunity to browse through the Amish stores that contain crafts, furniture, hardware and antiques. As we enter Oklahoma we will be making a short stop in Ponca City to tour Marland's Grand Home. It is the home of E.W. Marland, millionaire, oilmen and 10th governor of Oklahoma. Our evening stay will be in Oklahoma City .

Saturday, March 17                                                                                                Dallas , TX

 After breakfast we will be going downtown Oklahoma City to visit the National Memorial in remembrance of the victims, survivors and rescuers of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing which occurred on April 19th, 1995. Each of 168 lives lost is represented by a chair made of bronze stone and glass. As we enter the big state of Texas , we will stop downtown Dallas , the site where JFK was assassinated. Here we will get a chance to visit the Sixth Floor Museum . It is located in the former  Texas School Book Depository  where the day of John F. Kennedy's assassination is documented. Tonight dinner is included at the Trail Dust Restaurant. Our overnight stay will be in Dallas , Texas .

Sunday, March 18                                                                                               Austin, TX

 After breakfast we will head to the interesting city of Waco , Texas . We will visit the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum. The museum pays tribute to 26 Texas Rangers and contains artifacts such as badges, firearms and out-law possessions. After lunch we will enter the city of Austin TX and make an afternoon visit at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum , where we will enjoy the film " Texas : The Big Picture," in the 400 seat IMAX theater. Our evening stay will be at the Drury Inn.

Monday, March 19                                                                                         San Antonio , TX

   In the morning, we will be joined by a step-on-guide for a city tour of the State Capitol. We will be stopping by the Wildseed farm for a short visit which is a couple of miles out of Fredericksburg , where we will be having our luncheon stop. After lunch we will then be off to Johnson City and the LBJ Ranch. The ranch is a reconstruction of the farmhouse where LBJ was born, a one room Junction School , a show barn, the Texas "White House" and the grave of former President Lyndon B. Johnson in the Johnson Family Cemetery . Our home for the next two evenings will be on the famous  Riverwalk, downtown San Antonio .

 Tuesday, March 20                                                                                      San Antonio , TX

After breakfast, we will have a half-day tour of San Antonio . We will see modern skyscrapers coexisting harmoniously with 18th century restorations to one of America 's most picturesque cities. We will see such sites as the Mission of San Jose, King William Historic District, and Spanish Governor's Palace.  Our morning tour will conclude with the most famous spot in Texas, The Alamo where Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and 187 others died fighting for independence on March 6, 1836. The highlight of San Antonio awaits you this afternoon with the famous Riverboat Ride. You will take this relaxing cruise down the beautiful Paseo Del Rio, shaded by towering cypresses, oaks and willows and bordered by gardens of flowering ornamental foliage, one level below the hustle and bustle of the city streets. The balance of the day is set aside for relaxing, shopping and more dining.

Wednesday, March 21                                                                               Houston, TX

  Our travels today take us northeast to the city of Houston . We arrive at the Space Center Houston for a hand-on experience of space exploration. The home of Mission Control Space Center Houston is the official visitors center for Johnson Space Center . Our over night stay is at the Drury Inn, Houston for the next two nights.

Thursday, March 22                                                                                 Houston, TX

  After breakfast we will be off to the gulf coast town of Galveston . We will visit Moody Gardens where a ten story glass pyramid houses a rainforest complete with waterfalls, cliffs, rivers, fish, exotic birds and butterflies. We will also see the Aquarium Pyramid with a spectacular tribute to the oceans of the world with 1.5 million gallons of water and over 8,000 marine specimens. Later this afternoon we will explore the Victorian portion of this city aboard the Treasure Island Tour Tram. You will see some of the most elaborate mansions built in Galveston 's wealthiest neighborhoods. One of the most intriguing features of the city is the ten mile long, 17 foot high seawall. Before leaving Galveston , we will have time to shop or browse the seawall.

Friday, March 23                                                                                    Hot Springs , AK

  This morning we will head towards the northeast part of Texas . Our stop will be today at the East Texas Oil Museum at Kilgore. This museum is a tribute to the independent oil producers and wildcatters, to men & women who dared to dream as they pursued the fruits of free enterprise. After lunch we will be traveling through Texicana on our way to Hot Springs , Arkansas for our evening stay. We will be staying at the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa in the downtown area. Tonight you might be interested in pampering yourself to one of the many bath houses in town.

Saturday, March 24                                                                              Branson, MO

After breakfast we will have a short drive to Little Rock , Arkansas where we will pick up a step-on-guide for a city tour. Highlights of the tour will be driving by the state capital and the Clinton library. After lunch we will be on our way to Branson , MO for our evening stay, "The city of entertainment." There will be an evening show included. The show schedule has not yet been set. 

 

Sunday, March 25                                                                             Osceola , IA

 

This morning we will be traveling through Springfield , MO on our way to Kansas City where we will visit the Arabia Steamboat Museum . This museum displays a vast collection of frontier supplies and personal belongings recovered from the steamboat of 1889. Our over night stay will be in Osceola, Iowa . 

 

Monday, March 26                                                                            Home 

As we travel northwards home, we will make a stop at Winterset , Iowa and take a tour of the Madison County Bridges. This is also the birthplace of John Wayne. Our lunch stop will be in Des Moines at the Iowa 's Machine Shed. Before we reach home we will have time to reminisce of our fond memories of this exciting Texas Round-Up. An early evening arrival is scheduled.
