Monday, June 16 Quad Cities
Today we begin our experience of the Old Man River - The Mighty Mississippi. Our motor coach will be circling southern Minnesota picking up our fellow travelers to begin this adventure. Crossing into Iowa we will break for a light lunch in Waterloo before heading to the Amana Colonies: seven quaint and closely united villages which reflect a German heritage. We will stop at the visitor's center to watch a video about the Colonies. A step-on-guide will board our motor coach to point out the interesting shops in the area as they tell about colony life, both past and present. Before leaving the Colonies we will be treated to a family-style meal you will always remember. Our evening stay will be in Davenport, Iowa.
Tuesday, June 17 Dubuque, IA
Become Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn for the day! This morning we will depart at 7:00 a.m. on the "Celebration Belle" Paddle Wheel Boat for an all day 100-mile cruise up the Mississippi River. The first task for the day you will be treated to is a full buffet breakfast. During your excursion, one of our Captains will show and explain many things about the Mighty Mississippi, including the learning experience of locks and dams. In addition to this, we will be entertained with music, skits, comedy and more - maybe even by Peter & Paul Wendinger. Lunch and an elaborate prime-rib dinner will be served on the vessel before disembarking at 6:00 p.m., in the Mississippi Town of Dubuque, Iowa for our evening stay.
Wednesday, June 18 Home
Opportunity awaits us this morning in the Historic City of Galena, Illinois, home to Nine Civil War Generals and our Eighteenth President, Ulysses S. Grant. We will pick up a step-on-guide for a brief tour of the town and a chance to visit the Grant Home. Galena is noteworthy for some of the finest period architecture in the Midwest. Enjoy shopping in this unique little town. This afternoon we will make our way back home as we reminisce about time spent on the Mississippi River. Our new friendships made along the way; the sights, sound, & cultures make this an exciting adventure.
