Day By Day Itinerary
Wednesday, June 20 Bemidji, MN
Be ready to board our deluxe motor coach for three days of beautiful scenery, music and adventures. We will be picking up people en route through central Minnesota where you will be treated to a buffet lunch. We’ll be entertained this afternoon with a performance at the Woodtick Musical Theater - bringing music and comedy to the Northwoods since 1992! Our overnight stay will be in Bemidji, MN.
Thursday June 21 Fortune Bay Casino, Tower MN
Welcome aboard the historic “Chester Charles II” for a two-hour cruise up the waters of Lake Itasca for the ten mile narrated boat tour of the Headwaters of the Great Mississippi River. A wildlife interpretation about Bald Eagles, Common Loons, and Indian & logging history will be narrated by a wildlife naturalist; and lunch will be served on the boat. This afternoon while driving through the iron range, we will view the largest operating open pit iron ore mine in the world - Hull Rust Mahoning Mine View - “the Grand Canyon of the North”. We will be transported back in time while touring the Greyhound Bus Museum which was the original transportation for fellow miners. Hibbing is recognized as the birthplace of the bus industry in the United States and visitors can now see and hear the story at Hibbing’s attraction. There is something for everyone! Our overnight stay is at Fortune Bay Casino for an evening of gambling and dining pleasure.
Friday June 22 Home
After breakfast we will travel to the Soudan Underground Mine, Minnesota’s oldest iron ore mine, learning how mining shaped the history and culture of the Iron Range. We’ll tour the dry house, drill shop, crusher house, engine house, and take the boardwalk past one of the deepest open mine pits. Experience the life of a miner with the underground mine tour as we explore the last level that the miners worked. A collection of Northwoods’ memories provide miles of smiles as we make our way home throughout the afternoon. “Don’t Miss the Boat” for this fun-filled excursion to beautiful Northern Minnesota!
