Itinerary for New England

 

Monday, September 22                                                                                                Michigan City, IN 

This morning we board our deluxe air-conditioned motor coach as we begin our travel through the scenic farming area of Minnesota and Wisconsin. We'll stop for lunch and have rest stops enroute. We'll skirt the Chicago area as we reach our overnight stop in Michigan City, IN.

 

Tuesday, September 23                                                                                                 Clearfield, PA

After breakfast we will travel the Indiana-Ohio Turnpike. Our first stop this morning will be at the University of Notre Dame for a tour of the 1250 acre main campus which was founded in 1842 on a site of an early mission. We will be having a campus tour by a student historian. This afternoon we will be traveling through Ohio skirting the big cities of Toledo and Cleveland while we enjoy the entertainment aboard the motor coach. This evening’s stay is at the Holiday Inn Express in Clearfield, Pennsylvania.

 

Wednesday, September 24                                                                                            New York, NY

Today we will enjoy the bustling rolling hills of Pennsylvania as we head toward the wonderful city of New York. After we check into our hotel, the Hampton Inn, in Secaucus, New Jersey, we will then be off to Manhattan Island where a step-on guide will join us for a tour of New York City. Some of the attractions we will be seeing are the United Nations, Chinatown, Theater District, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Central Park and more. Our next stop will be the Empire State Building. This is one of the world’s tallest office buildings. We will take the elevators to the 102nd floor, where we can see approximately 50 miles from behind a circular glass enclosure. This evening on top of the Empire State Building you will enjoy the city twinkling at night.

 

Thursday, September 25                                                                                                  New York, NY

After a continental breakfast, we will have a chance to view the Statue of Liberty from the New Jersey side and the opportunity to visit Ellis Island. Ellis Island was the nation’s main point of entry for millions of immigrants between 1892 and 1954. Spend as much time as you wish on Ellis Island or if you wish, take a ferry to the Statue of Liberty for a photo opportunity. The ferry will then take you to Battery Park on Manhattan Island where we will once again meet our motor coach. The balance of the afternoon will be spent on a 3 hour Circle Line Cruise of the Manhattan area. This 35-mile cruise will show us the New York docks and skyline of the city. We will get a close up view from the boat of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, where the World Trade Centers buildings were, the United Nations Building and past the shores of Harlem.

 

Friday, September 26                                                                                                    Mansfield, MA

 

After breakfast we will leave the "Big Apple" traveling northward through the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island into Massachusetts. Our afternoon stop will be in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. You will have a photo opportunity as you view the wold famous rock! We will be able to board the Mayflower II, a replica of the original ship that carried the pilgrims to the new world. Our night stay will be at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

 

Saturday, September 27                                                                                                York Beach, MA

Today we will be picking up a step-on guide for our city tour of Boston, where we'll see Harvard Yard, Navy Yard (Old Ironsides) and Old North Church with viewings of Boston sights, both old and new. Our lunch will be held in the famous Quincy Market. We will continue the afternoon following the ride of Paul Revere to Lexington and Concord. In Lexington, we’ll see the site of the first conflict of the Revolutionary War. In Concord we'll see the Minutemen Statue and Old North Bridge. This evening you will be treated to a lobster dinner or another entree. Our evening stay will be along the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean.

 

Sunday, September 28                                                                                                    Montpelier, VT

After breakfast we will stop at one of America's famous lighthouses, on Cape Neddick, the Nubble Lighthouse. The next stop will be at Kennebunkport where we will enjoy a brief drive-through tour (upon which we'll catch a glimpse of former President George Bush's summer home on Walker's Point). We will continue north into New Hampshire to the city of North Conway. This is where we’ll get our first glimpse of the New England foliage. The colors of the maple trees will be with us for the next few days. As we travel through New Hampshire, we will be traveling across the infamous Kancamagus highway, which goes through the White Mountain National Forest, with picture stops as we travel.  Before we leave New Hampshire, we will be traveling along the Lost River. This river winds through a series of glacially formed boulder caves and potholes which frequently disappears altogether but emerges at the foot of the gorge to form Paradise Falls. We will have a picture stop at the Bath-Swiftwater Covered Bridge along the way. Our home for the next two evenings will be at the Comfort Inn in Montpelier, Vermont.

 

Monday, September 29                                                                                                    Montpelier, VT

Today we depart the motel for a short journey to the Rock of Ages granite quarry where you will view a 50-acre, 600-foot deep, active quarry, which is the world's largest dimension granite quarry. Late this morning we will enjoy a narrated tour at Vermont's gold domed State Capitol Building in Montpelier. The afternoon is at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill we will learn the process of cider making and may purchase Vermont made cheeses, maple products and handicrafts. We will also make a stop at Ben& Jerry's world famous ice cream plant for a tour.

 

Tuesday, September 30                                                                                                  Glenn Falls, NY 

Our fall foliage continues this morning with a picture stop at Quechee Gorge, Vermont's little Grand Canyon. The scenery continues as we go across the state of Vermont back into upper New York to the lake regions of Lake George. This afternoon we will be taking a two-hour adventurous steamboat ride of breathtaking Lake George. Our evening stay will be at the Country Inn & Suites in Glenn Falls, New York.

 

Wednesday, October 1                                                                                                    Niagara Falls, NY

This morning we will be going south to enter the New York turnpike where we will travel west as we skirt the towns of Utica, Syracuse and Rochester arriving in Niagara Falls early afternoon. Here we will take an historical ride aboard the world famous "Maid of the Mist", which will cruise right to the base of the Falls where you will hear the water thunder on the rocks and feel a cool mist on your face. This evening's accommodations will be at the Day's Inn on the U.S. side of the falls.

 

Thursday, October 2                                                                                                       Toledo, OH

As we leave our Niagara Falls experience, we will be traveling through Buffalo as we skirt along the shores of Lake Erie on our way to Pennsylvania and Ohio. An exciting afternoon awaits us as we board the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The foliage unravels its beauty before our eyes. The three-hour relaxing train ride will be one of the highlights of the tour. Our evening stay will be on the southern tip of Toledo, Ohio.

 

Friday, October 3                                                                                                            Elgin, IL

Today we will be driving among the "rich" farmland of Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. Our luncheon stop will be in the Chicago area before we head to Wisconsin for our evening stay at the Cranberry Lodge in Tomah, Wisconsin. This evening we will treated to an old fashioned "grill-out" with hamburgers and brats.

 

Saturday, October 4                                                                                                        Home

After breakfast a short drive will find us in the heart of Amish Country, Cashton, WI. This village and its surrounding townships are home to the largest Amish community in Wisconsin. A step-on­ guide will welcome you to the peace and tranquility of small-town America. Visitors find panoramic views of beautiful hills and valleys. Handcrafted Amish goods, including baked products, quilts, furniture, baskets and toys are available at various gift shops and Amish houses. Please respect the lifestyle of the Amish if they do not wish to pose for photos. Late this afternoon we will arrive home.
