Day by Day Itinerary

Saturday, July 23                                                                     Moline, IL

Today we begin our experience of the Old Man River - the Mighty Mississippi. Our motor coach will be circling southern Minnesota picking up our fellow travelers to begin this adventure. We will have lunch en route before arriving in Rock Island , IL. Rock Island has a rich and colorful railroad history, and tens of thousands of train lovers will ascend on the Quad Cities for America’s largest celebration of railroading, Train Festival 2011. Steam and Diesel Locomotives from around the country will be on display for visitors to tour the cabs, take photos, watch demonstrations and much more. Huge model train layouts will be on exhibit from around the country and railroad vendors from around the globe will be selling unique, one-of-a-kind train items and mementos that you won’t find anywhere else! Our two night stay will be at the Radisson in Moline, IL.

Sunday, July 24                                                                                     Moline, IL

After breakfast its ALL ABOARD! We will board the train in Rock Island for a vintage train ride aboard the Canadian Pacific. It will take you back to the days of yesteryear, with the destination of Muscatine, IA where we will take a short break for lunch. Become Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn for the afternoon! We will board the "Celebration" Paddle Wheel Boat for a 4-hour cruise up the Mississippi River. During the excursion, one of our Captains will narrate and bring to our attention points of interest about the Mighty Mississippi, including the learning experience of a lock and dam. In addition to this, we will be entertained with music, skits, comedy and more. A dinner buffet will be served on the vessel before disembarking at 6:00 PM, at Rock Island and then on to our hotel.

Monday, July 25                                                                                  Home

After breakfast we will board our motor coach and begin traveling back to Minnesota. We will stop in Waterloo, IA at the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum, which honors the service and sacrifice of all Iowa Veterans from the Civil War to present. The infamous Sullivan Brothers were serving on the vessel USS Juneau, during World War II. On November 13, 1942 the light cruiser sank and all five siblings were killed in action. After our guided tour of the museum, you will have an included lunch at Bishops Buffet in Waterloo. Traveling home, we will have time to reminisce about our time spent on the Mississippi River. Our new friendships made along the way; the sights, sounds, & cultures make this an exciting adventure.
