Day By Day Itinerary
Tuesday, August 23 Minot, ND
Our Canadian Rockies adventure begins by deluxe motor coach traveling through central Minnesota to our luncheon stop in Fargo, North Dakota. After lunch we will be making our way to Minot for our overnight stay.
Wednesday, August 24 Whitefish, MT
This morning after breakfast we will be transported to the Amtrak station in Minot where we will travel by Amtrak in coach accommodations through western North Dakota into Montana. The later part of the afternoon we will enjoy the sights of the southern part of Glacier National Park. Our evening stay will be at the Best Western in Whitefish, Montana.
Thursday, August 25 Fernie, BC
This morning we will depart by motor coach and travel to West Glacier to Lake McDonald where we will board the historic red coaches for our guided tour of the “Going-to-the-Sun-Road”. We will cross the continental divide at Logan Pass, enjoying the breath-taking view of this magnificent road. At St. Mary’s Lake we will enjoy a one-hour cruise as the hanging cliffs and glaciers come into view. After the cruise we will have lunch in St. Mary’s and be reunited with our motor coach. This afternoon we will travel north into Canada driving by the Frank Slide Catastrophic Rockslide of 1903. We will meander through and cross the Crows Nest Pass into British Columbia for a scenic drive. Our overnight stay is at the Park Place Lodge in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada.
Friday, August 26 Canmore, Alberta
After breakfast we will enjoy the beautiful valleys of B.C. Our first stop will be in Kimberley at the Bavarian City Mining Railway, where you experience riding on an actual mining train. Lunch will be on your own in this quaint German city. After traveling northward, we will be going east across the continental divide into Banff National Park. Canmore, Alberta will be our home for the next two nights.
Saturday, August 27 Canmore, Alberta
After breakfast we will travel on one of the most scenic highways in the world, viewing one of the beautiful water falls in the Jasper area, the Athabasca Falls or the Sunwapta Falls. We will have a luncheon and shopping tour in Jasper. This afternoon we will board the Snocoach on the Athabasca Glacier. You will be standing on one of the largest accumulations of ice south of the Arctic Circle. Late afternoon we will return to our hotel in Canmore.
Sunday, August 28 Calgary, Alberta
This morning our first stop will be in the city of Banff, where we will have several hours of shopping and browsing; or you have the opportunity to ride the Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain and view the splendor of the Rockies. We will continue on into the park to Lake Louise where you will get a chance to walk by the lake and enjoy the sights. Our visit will be complete with a buffet luncheon at the Chateau Lake Louise, one of the most memorable experiences of the trip. This afternoon we leave Banff National Park and drive to the city of Calgary where a guide will show us the sights. Our hotel for the evening is the Country Inn and Suites.
Monday, August 29 Regina, Saskatchewan
After breakfast we will leave Calgary, traveling through Alberta and Saskatchewan on Canadian Highway # 1. Late this afternoon in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, a step- on guide will give us a short tour of the murals throughout the town and reveal the stories of the early 1900 gangsters. Our stay will be at the Country Inn & Suites in Regina.
Tuesday, August 30 Winnipeg, Manitoba
This morning after breakfast, we will be going to the Province of Saskatchewan touring the beautiful setting and grounds of the Capital. The balance of the day we will be making our way to Winnipeg. Our evening stay will be at the Club Regent Casino Hotel, one of the most interesting and unique entertainment casinos in Western Canada. Club Regent invites you to experience our tropical jungle atmosphere where you can explore a mystical world that includes an awe-inspiring undersea world featuring the largest, walk-through saltwater aquarium in the entire Midwest. Hundreds of tropical fish from around the world guard the wreck of Galleon Reef.
Wednesday, August 31 Home
As we are making our way home, we can reminisce about the beauty and experiences of our train and motor coach tour. We will have one more luncheon together as we make our way back into the Twin Cities and down to southern Minnesota, to our drop-off points.
